Jordan and I have discovered that Jackson has a fairly predictable feeding, sleeping and awake time pattern. Through the night he goes 4-5 hours between meals...granted he doesn't necessarily sleep the whole time in between those meals, haha. In order to achieve such a feat, he eats every two hours during the evening to stock up on calories. And with all that eating, he also goes a few hours without sleeping.
It was during those active evening hours that we discovered Jackson really enjoys TUMMY TIME!!!
To be completely honest, it was Jordan who discovered Jackson's love for playing on the floor. I believe he mostly likes it because not only can he flail around his arms (which always find a way out of his swaddle, if we dare to swaddle them up, hehe), but he can kick his feet without fighting the swaddle as well.
Jackson has even started smiling now! ...And, no, this wasn't a spontaneous, "I have to go to the bathroom" smile :P
While Jordan was taking the photos, Jackson reached out to him...he knows who Daddy is!
Here's another photo of Jackson in all his cute-ness!
As Jackson has grown (and he's growing fast!) I've come to realize that this is just the beginning of our little guy revealing his personality. Each day he does something that makes me smile - just like daddy!
During the next tummy time, Jackson learned how to give a thumbs-up!
One day Jordan came home to find Jackson having tummy time, while I was doing the laundry. Jackson quickly decided that he REALLY likes it when Daddy plays with him during tummy time.
Over the days I also have found I enjoy tummy time, haha. It's fun to play with Jackson...I've already introduced him to the piggie-toes game and armpit cave.
Jackson is a great baby and Jordan has been an amazing husband and father. I am a very blessed wife and mother! I love my man and baby boy!!!
Both my kids hated having their arms wrapped tight. Have you tried swaddling Jackson with his arms out? It still counts! If it's what soothes him, do it. Mine would sleep all swaddled in their blankets, with their arms up high nestled around their heads.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried putting him on the ground face down yet? I loved watching my newborns try to hold their heavy little heads up and look around. It's really good for building up their muscles and gives the back of their head a break.
He is looking so much like his dad!! At first he was all you! He is such a little cutie! I can't wait until we can see him during Christmas!
ReplyDeletewait a sec, isn't this called "back" time? cute kid you have there!
ReplyDeleteCute! That's so exciting that he's smiling already! What is the armpit cave?
ReplyDeleteHaha, yes, Tara, you are completely accurate with that! He mainly lays on his back. But I think I'll start laying him on his tummy as Angie suggested :)
ReplyDeleteCourtney - armpit cave is something my Dad invented, I suppose. Pretty much you tickle Jackson in his armpit and yell, "armpit cave! Armpit cave!" Hahaha, my dad did that to me and now I'm doing it to Jackson. I think he'll be very ticklish :P
Tara, that's what I said too. We have put him on his tummy a little bit. He seemed to like it, especially when he's laying on Daddy.
